Healthy eating, exercise and developing good lifelong habits are the order of the day at Curraghagalla National School, who are ahead of the game, having just achieved Active Flag status.

The flag recognises efforts and initiatives by schools to promote and enhance physical activity within the school community. Over the past year, the children at the school have become familiar with things like golf, orienteering, dancing, karate and field games, to name but a few.

The principal explained that the physical well-being, as well as the emotional, social and educational well-being of the child, is fundamental to their overall growth.

In awarding the flag to Curraghagalla NS, the adjudicator was very impressed with the school yard markings designed by and painted by the teachers, support staff and parents. She said that they were colourful, user friendly and one of the finest she had seen. While she also commented on the enthusiasm and interest shown by the children in all of the physical activities throughout the school.

There will be a flag raising ceremony in the coming weeks to mark the achievement.
