Parents and children of Special Friends pictured on a family day out ahead of their annual cycle and walk on August 31.

With just over a week to go until the annual Special Friends cycle and walk event, the organisers are looking forward to another great event that the community can get behind.

On August 31, there will be a 5km walk or a choice of three cycles, the 80km cycle taking off from the CBS at 10.45am, the 40km cycle starting at 11.45am and the shorter 15km cycle beginning at 12.30.

Special Friends is a support group for parents of children with special needs and the parents are now appealing for donations of spot prizes to be given to any committee member or to Bright Sparks childcare centre before the big day.

The group recently had their annual family day with a visit to Trabolgan on August 20. It's a great way for the new members to mix and also a nice social activity to bring people together. Plenty of helpers are brought along to ensure that both the children and families can enjoy the day, which began with swimming, followed by fun in the playground and crazy golf for the small tots while the older children took part in various adventure sports.

Organisers said that the day was a great success, which was concluded with a lovely picnic before the children, all tuckered out from their busy day, enjoyed some well earned naps on the bus journey home.
