The annual Corrin View Estate, Fermoy Picnic on the Green took place last week on a glorious summer’s evening. A very large crowd of residents and guests enjoyed a wonderful evening of camaraderie, music, song and food.

For many years now this event has been the highlight of the summer, and in recent years, thanks to the Infant of Prague, has been blessed with fine weather. The music of Fermoy Concert Band under their conductor Ruari Dineen added to the occasion with a varied selection of popular and classical music, one of the highlights of the evening was an outstanding drum solo by band member, Colm Shinnick.

The group, The Quarrymen, Pat and Kieran O’Connor and Jerry Feerick, also had everyone’s feet tapping and they also accompanied some very talented singers, and so we went Waltzing Matilda with Daragh Brunnicardi, we Rolled Beethoven Over with Alan Rooney, Father Damien Lynch discovered that He Was His Own Grandpa, Liam Fenton Sang a Song for Ireland, the Quarrymen took The Galway Girl for a stroll back home, and we all sang along to the guitar and the beautiful voice of Karen Roche. To end the night, we got a rousing ‘Goodbye’ from Albert McGonagle.

Many more contributed their vocal talents in what is an ideal setting for such an event - the green is a natural amphitheatre, all the children had a great time in the bouncy castle. Well done to all the residents of Corrin View Estate who laid on plenty of food and refreshments. It was late into the balmy summer evening before many of us said our goodnights to each other. Hold on to that Infant of Prague, we will want it again next year!
