Things fell into place perfectly for all the volunteers associated with the ConnaBride Vintage Club rally and family fun day.

This is the highlight of club activities and always provides great entertainment for all age groups.

Ireland being Ireland, those who oversee the event, are at the mercy of the weather and it must have been a great source of relief when the forecasters predicted countrywide sunshine last weekend. A sultry day brings out the 'floating voters' and these extra bodies make all the difference when it comes to income and expenditure. ConnaBride Vintage Club pride themselves of putting on a good show and once again value for money was delivered.

Despite losing a few clubs in recent years, the vintage scene remains vibrant and enthusiasts can be relied upon to turn out in strength to support the Conna event. As a result, there was an excellent display of vintage cars, tractors, lorries and motorcycles.

During the course of the day, fire brigade personnel displayed their vital life-saving skills, while John Flynn was on threshing duty. Dermot Lyons kept the stage filled with dancers and the dog show attracted a fine entry, as did the ever popular, tug-of-war. A large crowd and the all important feel good factor was good news for beneficiaries - Irish Guide Dogs For The Blind and local girl, Lilly Murphy O'Dea.

In keeping with good practice, ConnaBride Vintage Club will present this money in due course and make public the exact amount raised.

Over the years, the club has assisted big and small organisations - funding that is especially welcome in the present economic climate.

In the aftermath of any successful event, it's important to thank all those who helped out or assisted in any way.

It's also important to thank ConnaBride Vintage Club members themselves who do all the ground work in the run up to the rally. While there may be a bit of debate about certain matters, when it comes to doing the work, everyone puts their shoulder to the wheel.

This team spirit and sense of purpose is what makes ConnaBride Vintage Club rally the success it is.
