Boiled water notice was a precaution
The ongoing closure of the Rural Development Programme is causing headaches for the north Cork administrator, Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, and local project promoters.
It has now led to a backlog of projects awaiting decision on funding from the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
Chairman of Avondhu Blackwater Partnership Sean Hegarty says he’s “gravely concerned” at the ongoing closure of the programme. “It is causing severe difficulties for project promoters such as community groups, businesses, individuals etc. who are awaiting our decision,” he told The Avondhu.
And, he said that while there is some commentary in the public domain that the Rural Development Programme monies aren’t being spent, “the fact is that we are not being allowed to spend due to the ongoing closure.”
They received an allocation of €9M to fund projects from 2008 to 2013.
