On the go for 40 years, it is with sad regret that organisers of the Fermoy Country Market announce to their loyal customers and the local interests, that their weekly market will cease service and will not be re-opening in 2015.

It comes with a sense of nostalgic reminiscence to all those weekly customers, some of whom have kept up their cherished purchases each Friday for over 30 years. However, as time moves on circumstances change and new members to help personnel is so vital for the upkeep of these wonderful local community services. Established in 1975, the association fondly remember two loyal and committed members who passed away in recent years - their welcoming ways, as part of our committee, plus their rich, bountiful produce was surely a great loss.

GOOD FRIENDSHIPS FORMED

Speaking to The Avondhu this week, one of those involved said, “We sincerely thank our loyal clientele and the ever-supportive staff of Fermoy Youth Centre, who tell us they will surely miss the ‘travelling aroma’ of juicy tarts, iced queens, nutty brown loaves, porter cakes and fruity scones, all presented neatly beside the rich variety of jams and marmalades. The very colourful array of house and garden plants, plus truly unique and delicately crafted crocheting/knitwear display, was ever-changing, trend-wise and eye-catching”.

“Well as the old saying goes, ‘Is fada an bóthar nach bhfuil casadh leis’ - all good things come to an end; and we are thankful for the good times and the many good friendships that were formed in the pleasant sales-and-tea room of Fermoy Country Market. Ár mbuíochas agus dea-ghuí na Blaina Nua do phobal Fheár Maí”, they concluded.
