Cllr Peter O’Donoghue joins Aontú

Councillor Peter O’Donoghue, an elected member of the Fermoy Municipal District, has this week announced his decision to join political party Aontú.

Voted into council for the first time in 2024, Cllr O’Donoghue ran as an independent in the elections. Speaking with The Avondhu this week, the Kilworth native explained that prior to election, he had been involved in different organisations in a bid to bring independents together on key principals with a ‘common sense’ approach to politics in Ireland. 

“There’s a lot of positives to being an independent, you’re very free to express your opinions, you only have to worry about one group of people and that’s your own constituents. They’re the big advantages of being independent, but what you quickly realise is that your power is limited in the influence you can have over the everyday running of the country,” Cllr O’Donoghue said.
