Fermoy town council is to afford the current president of the INTO, Fermoy woman Anne Fay, a civic reception. It'll take place on Wednesday next, March 27 in the town hall.

Anne has been on leave from her job as principal teacher in St Joseph's national school in Fermoy during her year as President. She began her teaching career in Presentation primary school, Fermoy where she taught infants and learning support for many years before taking up the position as teaching principal with St Joseph's. She's had a long involvement with the primary schools union and served as vice president before becoming president for 2012-2013.

"I'm extremely honoured to have been appointed. It's a very busy role. I hope to do some positive things and to prevent some negative things from happening," Anne commented at the time of her appointment last year.

Anne has presided over the union in what's proved to be a busy and challenging year with the extension to the Croke Park Agreement negotiated. The INTO said the proposals that emerged were the best that could be achieved through those negotiations and are presently balloting members without making a recommenation.
