Citroën have announced full details of their new C5 X model which marks a long-awaited and exciting return to the D-segment for the marque. The C5 X offers muscular shapes combined with streamlined, sleek lines to create a fluid, dynamic and elegant shape.
Combining the best of three worlds, C5 X conveys the elegance of a saloon, the dynamism and versatility of an estate and the modern, robust appearance of an SUV. New C5 X will be available with a choice of petrol and plug-in hybrid versions with first models now available to test drive for the upcoming 231-registration period.
With its front end sporting the V-shaped lighting signature represented in Citroën’s current range, the LED headlights and daytime running lights feature a unique lighting signature. The extended bonnet, the high belt line and the rear wheel flare give it distinction, dynamism and sturdiness; all part of the shape language of Citroën’s larger vehicles.
C5 X’s body style is muscular with optimised aerodynamics in mind to reduce fuel consumption. Its streamlined profile draws inspiration from aeronautics with the 3D LED rear lights stretching around the vehicle for increased efficiency. The upper spoiler and the extremely fluid rear window give the vehicle a powerful and dynamic character. The glossy black lower spoiler provides support and stability when braking, an aesthetic and useful solution which has already featured in many other Citroën body styles – from CX and C6 to XM. The large-diameter wheels ensure that air flows along the length of the body.
The 19″ Aero X alloy wheel rims have glossy black aerodynamic inserts that create a turbine effect to guide the airflow, reducing aerodynamic drag and so minimising fuel consumption. C5 X will be available in 6 different colour options with Amazonite Grey being introduced to the colour options.
Inside, it is evident that roominess was one of Citroën’s main concerns when designing C5 X. In the front, the uncluttered horizontal dashboard provides a vast and open living space. The generous and welcoming space in the back offers comfortable width and generous headroom to ensure that the rear passengers are seated comfortably and can enjoy their journey.
Brightness on board the C5 X is enhanced by the 360-degree windows around the car, including rear quarter panel windows. To further enhance on-board comfort and make travelling in the C5 X PHEV as relaxing as possible, particular attention has been paid to acoustics, with acoustic laminated front and rear windows providing exceptional insulation from outside noise.
The 10” touchscreen introduces the new fully customisable My Citroën Drive Plus infotainment system, an infotainment system with natural voice recognition allowing the driver to interact easily and naturally with the vehicle. The screen size increases to 12” from the Flair trim level.
As well as the 7-inch digital driver display, the extended Head-Up Display in front of the driver projects important driving information onto the windscreen including navigation, to ensure the driver’s eyes stay on the road at all times.
C5 X is fully aligned with the Citroën Advanced Comfort® programme, offering Advanced Comfort Seats in the front and rear. This innovative system involves a high-density sheet and 15mm thicker foam.
C5 X is equipped as standard with Citroën Advanced Comfort suspension, a Citroën innovation which, by filtering out all obstacles, from potholes and ditches to speed bumps and other road unevenness, ensures a smooth journey, as if you were on a “flying carpet”. The plug-in hybrid version of C5 X takes comfort even further with Citroën active Advanced Comfort® suspension, offering continuous active control over the suspension. Active suspension control reinforces the work efficiency of the Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® by releasing the suspension more while driving to fly over the road, while reducing body roll and guaranteeing body support when carrying heavy loads.
Speaking, Colin Sheridan Managing Director of Citroën Ireland commented: “The New C5 X is a welcome return to the D-segment for Citroën, all while offering a diverse role for customers seeking a mix of an estate, saloon and an SUV. The latest technology and comfort featured on C5 X make it an exciting model to introduce to the Irish market.
