On Sunday, 1st December senior citizens from Kilworth parish gathered in the hall of St. Martin's National School for the annual Christmas party.

A fine crowd turned out for what was a great social occasion. This generously sized hall was a perfect venue and catering responsibilities were in the capable hands of Michael Kearney from Tallow. A superb meal was laid on with everyone tucking in to the traditional turkey and ham.

Kilworth's most senior citizens, Kathleen Lyons and John Shanahan, were in fine fettle and to them fell the honour of cutting the cake, where it was then transferred to the kitchen for slicing and distribution. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal throughout with recently elected chairman of Kilworth GAA, Liam Kenny performing the role as MC.

Organisers were fortunate to receive a great many prizes and in keeping with the season of giving, these were shared out among the gathering.

Musician Jimmy O'Donoghue was back by popular demand and did a great job. Jimmy's tunes were augmented by contributions from the audience - this mix worked really well and the singing and dancing continued for the entire afternoon. Parish priest, Fr. Donal Leahy was also present, in his address he thanked all those who helped out or assisted in any way. He also acknowledged the sad passing of Bernard McCarthy who was a great supporter of the Christmas party.

Kilworth Community Council availed of the occasion to sell copies of '50 Years & More' which is an excellent account of Muintir na Tire activity in Kilworth - it was compiled and edited by Pat O'Connor. As well a wonderful reference book, it makes an ideal Christmas present for those with Kilworth connections living abroad. There are still a small number of copies remaining.
