Christmas is a time to spend with your loved ones and reflect on all that you have, but for those who may not have presents under the tree, the CBS Primary students in Mitchelstown have rallied together to collect toys and gifts for the Operation Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

They have collected and filled more than 80 shoeboxes, which will be sent to Armenia, Burundi, Congo, Croatia and other poor countries. So far, more than 2,000 volunteers have packed more than 3,000,000 shoeboxes in 49 centres across Ireland.

Last week, Marie Carey from Hope came to the school to pick up the boxes, which were filled with gifts, toys and presents, which would encompass the festive spirit and the joy of Christmas for children in poorer countries. The Avondhu was told that there were so many boxes that the backseat and boot of Ms Carey's car were full to the brim and for the students, it was a great experience, which allowed them to give to people really in need this Christmas period. Well done to everyone concerned!
