REBEL ÓG EAST U15 B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Aghinagh 2-8 Castlelyons 2-9
Castlelyons U15 footballers had a hard fought win in the final of the U15 B football championship final last Saturday afternoon. Played in Ballinora in dry but heavy underfoot conditions Castlelyons knew going into this game that they would be up against a strong traditional footballing side.
Castlelyons started well and opened the scoring with a pointed free from Niall O’Leary after three minutes. Both sides had good runs of play during the next 10 minutes but Aghinagh were beginning to get the upper hand and scored a goal and 2 points between the 11th and 19th minutes.
Castlelyons kept the head and came back with a point from Alex Henley and a goal from Niall in the 21st minute brought the sides level. Aghinagh went on to score two more points before half-time giving them a two point lead, 1-2 to 1-4 at the break.
Second half began as the first with Castlelyons scoring a point in the first minute of play from Keith O’Leary. Aghinagh upped the tempo and for the next 10 minutes had much of the play and added 1-2 to their score line.
Castlelyons didn’t panic and kept fighting for the ball which eventually resulted in two points from Niall in the 11th and 13th minutes to bring the score back to 4 point margin. Aghinagh got a point in the 15th minute but they didn’t score again until the 29th minute.
Castlelyons for their part dug deep and despite some dubious referring decisions at times went on to score 1-4 in the last 15th minutes, with 1-1 from Niall and 3 points from play from Keith. Keith’s final point in the 30th minute ensured a one point victory for Castlelyons and despite ending the match with 13 men showed great determination and team spirit right through this game.
Well done to the whole team and to their mentors James Moroney and Neil Spillane. It has been a long season and it’s not over yet as the boys are now through to the county semi-final v Croke Rovers, who are an amalgamation of Kilbrin and Castlemagner. This game is due to be played in Castlelyons on this Saturday 23rd at 2pm. Any support would be appreciated.

SUCCESSFUL AGM
A very successful annual general meeting of Castlelyons Juvenile GAA Club was held last Friday night with a large crowd in attendance. Outgoing chairman, Neil Spillane, opened the meeting and called firstly on club secretary Pat O’Sullivan who gave a very detailed and comprehensive report on all the clubs activities for the year.
Next up was Denis Buckley who delivered the financial report of the club. Expenses are increasing every year and the importance of fundraising was emphasised.
The mentors of the different age groups from U6 up then gave a run down of their teams’ activities for the year. U12 hurlers won the Rebel Óg East final and the U13 hurlers got to three finals including the county final and were only beaten twice all year.
Neil Spillane then delivered his chairman’s report again touching on the highlights of the year. Even though we don’t have much silverware to show, nevertheless this has been a successful year for the club with juvenile numbers increasing all the time which indicates that we must be doing something right.
Neil spoke again on the importance of fund raising and sponsorship and to this end he thanked Michael Riordan of Riordan’s SuperValu, Fermoy who are the club’s main sponsors. Riordan’s SuperValu have been on board with Castlelyons Juvenile GAA now for 10 years and their sponsorship during this time has been invaluable. Neil indicated that he was standing down from his position this year and thanked his fellow officers and committee for their help during the year.
Anthony O’Regan, chairman of the adult club then presided over the election of officers for the coming year and the following were elected: presidents: Fr Gerard Coleman and Dave Hegarty, chairman: Jimmy O’Leary, asst chairman: James O’Neill, secretary: Pat O’Sullivan, treasurer: Denis Buckley, PRO: Jimmy Morrison, children’s officer: Michael Griffin, schools liaison officer: Dave Hegarty, lotto representatives: Denis Buckley, Helen McCarthy and Michelle Griffin.
Team manager: U8 Donal O’Callaghan, U10 Pat O’Sullivan, U12 Declan Spillane, U13 Will Casey, U14 James O’Neill, U15 Neil Spillane and U16 Jimmy O’Leary.
Castlelyons Juvenile GAA main sponsors: Riordan’s SuperValu, Fermoy.
