Castlelyons minor footballers post good win over Passage

Castlelyons dominated play and possession playing very strongly with some great interplay between backs and forwards to take some excellent scores.

MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Castlelyons 3-14 Passage 2-03

Castlelyons played Passage in the first round of the minor football championship on Thursday night last in St Vincents GAA Club on a dry bright night with conditions perfect for football. Castlelyons started very brightly and scored the first of their three first half goals after 10 mins. Castlelyons dominated play and possession playing very strongly with some great interplay between backs and forwards to take some excellent scores. Castlelyons went in at half-time leading on a score line of 3-06 to 1-01.

The second half continued on the same lines with Castlelyons dominating play and ran out worthy winners on a score of 3-14 to 2-03.

A great performance by all the panel with the next round due to be played on Thursday, 25th against Eire Og in Ballinure, Ringmahon.

FUNDRAISING DRAW

Costs are an ongoing problem in the running and upkeep of any club and Castlelyons GAA Club in an effort to cover its ongoing expenses are organizing a fundraising draw to be held on Saturday 14th and Saturday, 28th September.

A launch night was held on Saturday 20th at Peddlers Rock Bar with all the major sponsors of the draw present. Tickets are now available from any club member, players and select outlets in the area. Please support this fundraiser and help Castlelyons GAA in the upkeep and running of its club.

PIH CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW

The draw for the 4th round of the PIH championship draw was made at the County Board meeting on Tueesday night last, with Castlelyons receiving a bye into the quarter-final where they will play Newcestown. This game will most likely take place the last weekend of August with all training and efforts now aimed at this match.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership for 2013 is now overdue and needs to be paid immediately. Subs can be paid to Con Lawlor (treasurer), Donal O'Leary, Denis Fenton or any officer of the club.

WELL DONE

Well done to Colm Spillane and Colm Barry who were on the Cork U21 and Cork intermediate panels for Munster championship matches against Tipperary in the past week. Also best of luck to Colm Spillane who is part of the Cork senior hurling panel for the All-Ireland quarter-final match against Kilkenny on Sunday next.

Results for 22/07/2013. Numbers drawn were 3, 8, 13 and 26. No winner. The jackpot was €2,800. Next draw 29th July in Peddlers Rock.
