There could be some activity in the future at the Castle Park Hotel building on Baldwin Street, Mitchelstown, as the former hotel was sold to local contacts at the Allsop auction in Dublin on Tuesday.

The building which is made up of a hotel, restaurant and townhouse was offered collectively as one lot with, what estate agents describe as 'refurbishment and development potential'. It was sold at the minimum reserve price of €150,000 plus VAT.

The Avondhu understands that those who bought it have no immediate plans for the former hotel, but they are 'looking at different avenues'.

Within the hotel, there are 14 ensuite bedrooms between the first and second floors and four rooms in the townhouse on the ground, first and second floor.
