Fears are mounting this week that the Fermoy Divisional Headquarters of An Garda Siochana will be in the line of fire following the announcement that Cork North and Cork West may be merged into one large division.
The countrywide proposal would reduce the number of divisions from 28 to 19 with a view to having more Gardai ‘on the frontline’.
Cllr Frank O’Flynn, outgoing chairperson of the Cork County Joint Policing Committee, has said that he calling for Fermoy to be selected as the headquarters for the newly proposed division.
“It’s a very central location for Cork and it’s so near the motorway. We have a strong case to push,” he told The Avondhu.
