Mount Melleray has long been home to Scouting Ireland since the organisation acquired the former boarding school in 1979.
However, more recently, the Mount Melleray National Scout and Activity Centre has been closed.
The site, which was one of the largest Scout Centres in Ireland, is understood to have been closed for the last 18 months.
With accommodation provisions for over 300 people and a number of on-site activities, questions have been raised about why the site is not being used.
It is understood that the Scouting site closed in March of last year due to unspecified safety issues pending a safety report from the fire officer.
