Fermoy Town Council is to write to Ministers Pat Rabbitte and Fergus O'Dowd calling on them not to enact legislation that could lead to the introduction of an anglers registration charge.

Fermoy Town Council is to write to Energy Minister, Pat Rabbitte and his Minister for State, Fergus O’Dowd calling on them not to enact legislation that could lead to the introduction of an anglers registration charge.

A motion tabled by Cllr Tadhg O’Donovan calling for the action was discussed and passed at the December meeting of the town council. Cllr O’Donovan, who wasn’t present at the meeting, also called for the resolution to be circulated to all other local authorities seeking support.

Cllr Noel McCarthy moved the motion on behalf of Cllr O’Donovan, saying he felt it would lead to unauthorised angling. Cllr Michael Hanley supported the motion.
