Sinn Fein Councillor, June Murphy from Mitchelstown, has called on people to register their feelings about the property tax with Cork County Council. There is currently a public consultation process under way on the property tax in each council area. However the consultation is so poorly advertised that the vast majority of people do not know that it is happening.
The deadline for entering a submission to Cork County Council is August 26th. Councillor Murphy told The Avondhu that “this is an opportunity for people to put their views directly to the Government and so it is vital that we ensure as many people as possible are made aware of the process and encouraged to make a submission, as a low response from the public will be used by the Government parties as an indication of support for the tax.”
Councillor Murphy stressed that on the first day of the new Council, Sinn Fein brought forward a motion to have the maximum amount of 15% cut from the tax but in order to get this through the Council budget, a strong show of support is needed from the people so the Government parties and Fianna Fail members of the chamber, whose parties are responsible for the tax, are in no doubt that the people want this reduction at the very least.
Submissions can be sent to the: LPT Submission, Cork County Council Corporate Services, Floor 14, County Hall, Cork or e-mailed to lpt@corkcoco.ie
