An opportunity for budding actors and actresses to audition for a new short film is being offered by young Fermoy woman, Helena Reilly.

Helena, from Coolnakilla, Fermoy, is an actress herself. She is interested in branching into film direction, hence her new project. Called 'After', it's the story of two sisters, one working, one in college, whose father has passed away. Stuck in their grief, the older of the two, Sandra, as the more pragmatic one, instigates a reconnection with her sister, Leanne. "It's about bereavement and loss but from a younger viewpoint. It's also from a lighter perspective," Helena says.

CORK AUDITIONS OPEN

The film is being set in a house in the Burncourt area. Filming will take place in September. Helena has already engaged the services of a director, who's from Dublin. Helena herself will play Sandra in the film. She's currently casting for the role of the younger sister and the father and is holding auditions in Dublin and Cork. The Dublin auditions are fully subscribed to but there are opportunities still to audition in Cork. Those auditions are taking place this Friday, August 16th at Helena's alma mater, UCC. Helena is also seeking support and assistance in making the film, which she plans to premiere in Cork and submit to film festivals. She is seeking the services of a hairdresser to work on the project and anyone willing to donate catering services and other practical help during filming.

The 22-year old has just finished a degree in drama and theatre studies with music at UCC. She's a past pupil of the Presentation Primary School and Loreto Secondary School in Fermoy. As well as pursuing a career in acting and film direction, Helena plans to follow her interest in songwriting.
