Blood Bike South Volunteers receiving the keys to new Volkswagen Polo from Conor Lehane and Cork hurler and Blackwater Motors Sales Executive, Ritchie Daly.

Blackwater Motors have renewed their support for Blood Bikes South, donating a new Volkswagen Polo to the charity.

Members of Blood Bike South were presented with the new 191 Polo at the Forge Hill branch of Blackwater Motors, which has sponsored the voluntary organisation since 2017.

Cork hurler, Conor Lehane, brand ambassador for Blackwater Motors, presented the keys of the new vehicle to the group.

Blood Bikes South is a charitable organisation, operating primarily in the southern region of Ireland.

Their mission is to assist hospitals and other medical facilities, along with local communities, by providing a voluntary motorcycle transport service for blood and other urgent medical materials on an out-of-hours basis.

Invaluable work

On hand at the presentation of the new Polo to the charity, fellow Blood Bikes South volunteer and Blackwater Motors’ senior sales executive, Ritchie Daly, said: “We’re delighted and very proud to continue our support of Blood Bikes South. The work done by all the volunteers is invaluable to our community and providing this powerful and reliable vehicle means that Blood Bikes South will continue to deliver, whatever the weather.”

Blood Bikes South’s services are provided by local volunteers, who take part in advanced training and undergo regular reviews of their skills.

The volunteers give up their time to serve their communities and hospitals.

The charity heavily relies on the support of local communities and businesses to help them pay for running costs such as insurance and petrol etc.
