Doneraile student Shantelle Sheehan will represent Ireland in the World Taekwondo Championships this weekend, hosted for the first time in Ireland.
16 year-old Shantelle, a first-degree black belt, already has a huge amount of experience at this level of competition.
Earlier this year, she won bronze in the European Championships in Bulgaria and was a silver medalist at the Dutch Open.
She was a winner of the Sports and Leisure Award two years running and was the youngest athlete to win 'best junior competitor' in Taekwondo, winning three gold medals and two silver medals in just one day.
Everyone at The Avondhu wishes Shantelle every success in the prestigious World Championships this weekend and hopefully she will return with more medals to add to her growing collection.
