Benefits of the CMWS Hall in Fermoy

Being what some may consider, relatively new to Fermoy, I thought it might be a good thing to take a closer look.

Dear Editor,

A stroll around the town of Fermoy recently and one thing that kept popping up almost everywhere was the little green poster with the words ‘Fermoy CMWS’. Obviously intrigued, I took the time to read the fine print only to see these posters were for a fundraiser for not one but two charities, Build4life Cystic Fibrosis and Epilepsy Ireland (Cork) being held by the Fermoy CMWS (Catholic Mens & Womens Society).

Being what some may consider, relatively new to Fermoy, I thought it might be a good thing to take a closer look at it all and found myself surrounded by a horde of young lads in a serious practice session for the upcoming snooker tournament/fundraiser which is open to both members and non-members alike, to take on some of Ireland’s top players on Friday, 15th November at 6.30pm at the Fermoy CMWS Hall.

A quick look around and I was more than impressed with the newly refurbished hall and state-of-the-art tables in all their grandeur. I did notice one thing, the name – CMWS (Catholic Men & Womens Society) – yet I didn’t see any other woman around and although I was somewhat disappointed in that, it did strike me that this is the perfect place for the youth of the town to spend their free time. It’s warm, clean and something constructive and may I be so bold as to say, a fun way to while away your afternoon or evening during the cold winter and to catch up with the lads while honing your snooker skills.

So, being the inquisitive person that I am, it was not long before I found myself a new member and committee member so that I could also have a hand in this untapped source and maybe see it utilised to a fuller potential in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

Norahanne Soe,

44 Clancy St.,

Fermoy.
