Oran Kielty, a Bartlemy local, has completed a three week stint in Zambia along with 13 classmates and three teachers where they spent their time volunteering.

Having just completed fifth year at CBC, Cork, Oran and his classmates set out to a town called Mazabuka in Zambia where they volunteered with a charity called SERVE and spent the three weeks immersing themselves in Zambian life and helping the local commmunity. Speaking with The Avondhu following his trip, Oran said that he ‘loved every second’ of the trip.

“I loved it. I loved every second. It was a massive learning curve. It’s different to see other people struggling. We’re living in luxury compared to them. Life in Ireland is of a way better quality than life in Zambia and it’s hard to see people struggling there but I learned a lot from it and I learned to enjoy every second. Zambian people are some of the happiest people I’ve ever seen. No matter what the situation, they are all so happy,” he said.
