News of the closure of Bank of Ireland's MItchelstown branch has been slammed by members of the local business community as well as local representatives.
The former manager of the BOI branch Ben Lynch, has said the closure will herald an even more difficult time for small businesses, who will 'struggle yet again'.
Mr Lynch, who served as manager at Mitchelstown BOI from 1994 until 2002, said the news was predicatable, but came as 'yet another blow to country towns'.
"I'm very disappointed, but when I look around at other towns that have lost their branches, I'm not shocked," he said. "The next change was always going to be a reduction in face to face services."
