Locals in Ballysaggart had reason to celebrate Argentina’s World Cup win on Sunday, as distant relative of the Moore family, Alexis McAllister, played a part in the South American team’s victory.
Local Claire Moore is married to Owen McAllister, and Owen’s uncle still lives in the old home in Donabate where the MacAllister’s emigrated to Argentina from in the late 1860s.
The Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder was named as part of the 26-strong Argentinian squad that went on the be crowned the World Cup champions in Qatar after a nail-biting final on Sunday, when defeating the French following penalties after extra time.
MacAlister’s cousin Ricardo ‘Dickie’ Mac Allister is a former president of the Buenos Aires Hurling Club. His brothers Francis and Kevin are also footballers, and play with Rosario and Argentinos Juniors respectively.
