In recent weeks the people of Ballylanders and surrounding areas will have seen the brand new GAA facility rise out of the ground as great strides are being made on the building of the 7,000 square feet development.
Building work commenced in the spring time and the good weather since then has allowed Seamie Browne of Countryside Homes LTD work according to the planned schedule.
“We are hoping to have the facility complete by autumn”, commented Eamon O’Neill, chairman of the club. “This is a big undertaking by the club and is the culmination of years of planning by the volunteers of the club. It will put the best possible facilities in place for future generations and will also provide an amenity to the community”, commented Mr O’Neill.
“Like all new facilities and clubs, Ballylanders is no different from the rest in that it has to fundraise to finance the development. We have currently issued letters to every household in the parish and to members and friends of the club beyond the parish”, commented Marie Lane, treasurer of Ballylanders GAA. “We have received a heart warming response to these letters and we would like to thank everyone who has put their hand in their pocket to support us to date but we have a lot more to achieve.”
“We appreciate the difficult economic and financial challenges that many in our community now face but we ask you to give serious consideration to supporting the club development plan,” concluded Ms Lane.
For those who may yet wish to donate to the Ballylanders project, letters or donations can still be returned to Marie Lane or Mike McCarthy or indeed any club officer. Further details on the Ballylanders GAA development can be seen on www.ballylandersgaa.ie or follow the club on Twitter @GAA Ballylanders
