Members of Three Counties Motorcycle Club will host the 10th annual Jack Murphy Memorial Run on Sunday, 3rd August.
This popular event continues to attract bikers from throughout the region and this year should be no exception. The run remembers a man who had a life-long passion for motorcycles and who was instrumental in setting up Three Counties Motorcycle Club. It means a lot to the Murphy family that Jack is still so fondly remembered.
Register in The Square
Bikers are asked to assemble in Market Square, Mitchelstown for the registration process. Names will be taken from 11am and participants are encouraged not to leave it to the last minute. The registration fee is €10. The plan is to depart Mitchelstown as 12.30pm sharp.
Always a good spin
The Jack Murphy Run is always an enjoyable run and to date they've been pretty lucky with the weather. In any event, riders should bring their rain gear. The run is well marshalled and riders will be instructed about stop off points along the way.
Back to Jimmy's Bar
Heretofore, The Glocca Maura Inn was the end destination, however, that landmark hostelry is on longer operational and on Sunday week, the finishing point is Jimmy's Bar in Kilworth - a fine venue where a warm welcome always awaits. The end of run barbecue is another Jack Murphy Run highlight and the barbecue being laid on in Jimmy's promises to be up to the usual high standard.
Music by Rob Harley
Having dined out on burgers and sausages, riders will be treated to a free concert by Rob Harley. At this stage motorcyclists will be joined by family and friends and the festivities will continue until after dark. There will be a donation bucket in place and all contributions large or small will be gratefully accepted.
Proceeds to Aid Cancer Treatment
Aid Cancer Treatment (ACT) have benefitted very substantially from the run over the years and, as a result, this organisation has been able to assist those battling and recovering from cancer. ACT relies heavily on public subscriptions and those behind the organisation are indebted to the Three Counties Motorcycle Club for their ongoing support.
Great social event
Many of those taking part this year will have taken part in all 10 runs to date. This shows the loyalty of these individuals and how seriously they take the event. As always, newcomers are more than welcome. While the fundraising side of things is very important, the Jack Murphy Memorial Bike Run is first and foremost a social event that brings like minded people together - it's a day to be savoured and enjoyed.
Word of thanks
The run doesn't happen of it own accord and a lot of work goes on behind the scenes. Patsy Cahill and members of the organising committee take this opportunity to thank everyone who helps out or assists them in any way. When all is said is done, it's a team effort and the fact that this team works so well together goes a long way to explaining the ongoing success of the run. The aforementioned Patsy will be able to answer any queries you might have about the run, his contact number is 087-1357375.
