Work on the planned new playground and multi-use games area for Ballyhooly will not now begin for several weeks due to a delay in State funding to Avondhu Blackwater Partnership Ltd., the local development agency providing major funding for the project. Other local development agencies across the country are similarly affected by a delay in allocating funding.

A letter from the Ballyhooly Playground and Multi-Use Games Area Committee was delivered to all households in Ballyhooly in the past week, advising them of the delay. They’ve promised to let people know the new start date as soon as it becomes available.

Following an open e-tender process, the contract for the project was awarded to local contractor James Walsh of Walsh Engineering. The estimated cost of the project is approximately  €130,000. Funding to date has been raised through grant aid, a number of benefactors and local clubs.
