Over the summer, after Ballygiblin NS officially opened their new school extension, they set to work on refurbishing the playground which was blessed by Fr James Greene on Friday last (13th).

Principal Mary Collins told The Avondhu that the parent's association, board of management, Ballygiblin Development Association, Ballygiblin GAA and local people in the community, all played a part in driving the fundraising for this project forward.

"The refurbishing of the playground is a testament to what a community can do when it works together," she said.

She added that unfortunately, with the cuts to the summer works grant and maintenance grant, schools are left with no choice but to fundraise for what they need.

The plans for the playground include lining the basketball court and painting out games like hopscotch and snakes and ladders with hard wearing thermoplastic paint, as well as purchasing more playground equipment.

There is also a programme in place, where people can be part of the new playground by purchasing a square metre of the basketball court for €20, for which they will get a numbered and named cert. Anyone interested can contact Noelle Luddy on 087-8158902.
