Mary McCarthy's association with Ballygiblin National School started in September 1988 and ended with her retirement this year. During her almost three decades at the school she earned the respect of pupils, their parents and her teaching colleagues.

These three groups were well represented at a special Mass and social evening held last Friday. Mass was said by Fr James Greene, another long-time friend of Ballygiblin National School, who is now based in Carrigtwohill.

Following Mass, parents council representative Mary Gorey, acknowledged Mary's long years of service and the conscientious way she approached her work.
