Father and son team Con and Doc Martin from Ballindangan are finally home in their own kitchen to the relief of their family and friends having driven 11,776 miles across 22 countries in the Mongol Rally in aid of Cork City Hospitals Children’s Club.
The care-free pair set off on an adventure of a lifetime on July 13 and only landed back on Irish soil on Friday evening last.
Their mode of transport was a suped-up 98 Suzuki Jimny 1.3 which broke down four times on their mammoth journey but managed to still make it across the finish line despite looking a bit worse for wear.
Despite often driving into the unknown for an unknown period of time, Doc told The Avondhu that neither of them ever felt worried about what was to come.
“We never really felt in danger at any stage but the journey was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be,” Doc told The Avondhu.
