The build up towards this year's Macra na Feirme National AGM has already begun, as the Avondhu Macra club prepare to take their place at the helm to host the AGM in the Charleville Park Hotel in May.

Speaking at the launch of the AGM, chairperson of Avondhu Macra, Mary Anne Murphy, thanked the sponsors Kerry Group for their generous sponsorship and said that as one of the biggest events on the national Macra calendar, it is a great honour for the Avondhu club to be hosting it.

She also thanked the Charleville Park Hotel for hosting the event, which will take place on May 11 to include the AGM, debating finals as well as the 'Red and Black Gala Banquet', with music being provided by The Kelts.

Ms Murphy said that the debating final will be very exciting, as the finalists will not be determined until after the semi-final in Kilkenny this coming weekend, on April 19.

The outgoing Macra president, Alan Jagoe, praised the Avondhu club, saying that the AGM will bring representatives from all over the country to Charleville and that the club has been fantastic representing both young farmers and people from the Avondhu region.

At the AGM, the newly elected national president and vice president will take up their term of office and more than 400 members of Macra are expected to attend the AGM. Tickets for the night are €30 - for more information contact Mary Anne Murphy on 087 1231429.
