Avondhu Blackwater Partnership took part in the Cork Innovates event last week, showcasing the type of support that has been provided to entrepreneurs and business owners over the course of the LEADER programme.

Company spokesperson, Kirsty Tobin who attended the show said that, even though the programme is currently closed for new applications, there was plenty of interest shown for when it reopens.

“Many of the people who spoke with us were in the early stages of developing their businesses, so the fact that we are currently unable to take new applications was no real barrier,” she explained.  And she said that "While the format of the new LEADER programme is still under discussion, we are hopeful, when all the details have been agreed, that they will be in a position to return to the provision of the kind of business support that has been so successful for local SMEs”.

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT

Avondhu Blackwater Partnership has provided almost €800,000 in grant aid to local entrepreneurs over recent years and has provided other supports through business and marketing skills courses and one-to-one business mentoring services. The courses are credited with the creation of nearly 50 new jobs across a range of sectors, as well as helping business owners to increase business performance. According to Kirsty, this is the ethos of local development and Avondhu Blackwater Partnership is extremely proud to have been able to play a part in this success.

“The range of SME sectors we have supported encompasses the leisure, equestrian, scientific and tourism fields, among others, and this shows the flexibility offered by local development companies like Avondhu Blackwater Partnership – they are on the ground, flexible, and offer enormous support in bringing these complex projects to fruition.”
