Fermoy Soccer Club have completed construction of their new AstroTurf pitch on the grounds of Carrig Park on the north side of the town.

The work, which commenced in January, was undertaken by Cork-based contractors Synthi-Green Sports Surfaces Ltd.

The AstroTurf is the first purpose built all-weather soccer pitch in the town, and Fermoy Soccer Club chairperson, Jim Corcoran, told The Avondhu that the facility is open to all those within the local community.

“It’s a great facility for the club, it’s a great addition for us, but it’s also available for rent to the local community. Schools and companies who wish to book the pitch for a time can do so, it’s perfect for any group who wishes to play five-a-side,” he said.

Currently the club, based just off Barrack Hill in the town, has 14 teams and has over 100 schoolchildren in its academy. Carrig Park is already home to a number of pitches, dressing rooms, a stand and a gym facility.

FUNDRAISING

Given the significant cost of the AstroTurf, in the region of €140,000 to €150,000, the club are in the process of raising funds to offset this cost.

They are holding an All-Weather Pitch Development Golf Classic in Fermoy Golf Club on Thursday, June 2nd and Friday, June 3rd.

The format of the golf classic is a three-ball scramble at a cost of €150. To register, contact Aidan O’Mahony on 087-7982559 or Jim Corcoran on 087-7567546,
