An invitation from the student council in Kildorrery National School saw them welcome some of their most interesting visitors yet, as the band from the First Southern Brigade came to the school last week.

Principal Rachel Kelly told The Avondhu that it was a huge honour for the school, as only 26 schools in the country have the opportunity to avail of a visit from the band each year.

"The band was tremendous, playing a repertoire that was well known to children and adults alike. They played pieces from cartoons, television programmes and many well known songs. The children learned about the different instruments, such as the euphonium and the saxophone," Ms Kelly said.

LEADING THE CHARGE

Three sixth class children also got a chance to conduct the band and some children played percussion instruments as the band played. During their visit, three band members demonstrated their singing talents with some well known songs.

"The children of Kildorrery NS would like to thank the parents who baked beautiful buns and cakes for the band members and served them lunch on the day. A special thank you goes to Ms Fox and the student council who made it all happen. We look forward to the next visit of the army band," said Ms Kelly.
