Members of Castletownroche Tidy Towns have compiled a richly informative and comprehensive guide to all of the graves contained within St Mary’s Graveyard that it was possible to read, and the resulting information is now available in book form, along with a valuable location map of the site.
The graveyard houses both Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic graves, and the survey located and recorded 293 remembrance monuments dating from the early 18th century.
The project commenced back in 2020, but with subsequent lockdown restrictions limiting participating numbers, the bulk of the work collecting the inscriptions and collating the work, was completed by Nora Ahern and Anne Daly, both of Castletownroche Tidy Towns Committee.
