The 2021 SSE Airtricity Women’s National League Young Player of the Year Award has gone to Kilbehenny’s Aoibheann Clancy, wrapping up what has been a fantastic year for the midfielder.
The awards announced last Wednesday were the culmination of a year in which Aoibheann was called up to the Senior Women’s Irish Squad for the first time when she took to the pitch in the FAI Women’s Cup Final against Shelbourne with a 3-1 win.
Speaking to The Avondhu, Aoibheann agreed that the win was 'the icing on the cake'.
“I’m delighted to have firstly been nominated, and then selected as this year’s WNL Young Player of the Season. At the beginning of the year my main aim was to win some silverware with Wexford Youths, which thankfully we achieved in winning the FAI Cup Final, so this is really the icing on the cake for me and a great way to cap off a thoroughly enjoyable season.”
