In a depressingly all too familiar pattern, another retail outlet will close in Mitchelstown this week. Friday (April 19) marks the last day of trading for Paul Walsh, who ran Autostore in New Market Square.

Darragh, Glenroe resident, Paul, has committed countless hours to his motor accessory business but with his lease up for renewal, he feels now is the time to close this particular chapter. Opening in the teeth of a recession, Paul was under no illusions about the difficulties facing a sole trader.

"I had hoped after 12 months that business would improve to the point of being able to employ another person, unfortunately, this didn't materialize and the demands of running the business were considerable with a resultant impact on family life," he says.

Despite this, he's not bitter and indeed is wholesome in his praise of the Mitchelstown public.

"I found locals very good and I take this opportunity to publicly thank them for their custom, with the lease being up I taught it was the right time to go, but I must say that the owner of the premises, Pat Tangney, couldn't have been fairer". Paul is extremely grateful to his family, customers and friends for their support and goodwill during the last 3 years.
