An Image for Frank

The late Frank Morgan, who was one of the club's founder members, playing a pivotal role in the setup and success of the club.

There are some new challenges ahead for Fermoy Camera Club. And the first really big one is the Frank Morgan Memorial Cup on Tuesday, November 14 at the youth centre in Fermoy. The theme is ‘open printed’ and this is for members favourite photograph taken in the current year.

This is to honour the memory of Frank who was one of our founder members and played a pivotal role in the setup and success of the club. He was ever generous with his time and advice and helped many members with cameras and their prints.

He gave encouragement to many, with tips and suggestions on how to improve photographs and loved seeing people enjoying photography.

FCC are very grateful to Breeda and Helen for sponsoring this competition and their ongoing support of the club. We expect a great turnout on Tuesday 14 and look forward to a great night.

George Karbus is visiting the club on Tuesday, November 28. A huge turnout is expected as George is one of the best outdoor photographers in Europe.

Having arrived in Ireland 10 years ago from the Czech Republic he funded his first professional camera working as porter in a Galway hotel and from that point dedicated himself to photographing Ireland’s emerald coastline.

It certainly paid off and in 2009 he was awarded the Nature’s Best Photography Award, one of the most prestigious and world-recognised photography accolades. This is a night not to be missed and be sure to arrive on time.

His website is www.emerald-vision.com. A contribution from the €5 admission will be presented to a local Homeless Charity.

Another busy club member is Kate Murphy who recently visited Cuba and we were treated to a small sample of her photos recently.

She has managed to whittle the over 3,000 photos down to under 100 excellent prints and these will be on display in Fermoy Library for the month of November, well worth going along for a look.
