All aboard for Araglin’s newest bus-iness

The nationally renowned Araglin Animal Sanctuary has another string to its bow with the official opening of Annabel’s Bus Top Bistro – a dining experience for those looking for something different.

Best known for its exotic collection of ‘all creatures great and small’, the sanctuary is now home to a still smooth running 1966 AEC Regent double decker bus. Purchased in Ipswich, the vehicle comes fully kitted out to cater for discerning diners.

Now neatly parked up, getting the bus from the UK to Araglin was an adventure in itself, according to animal sanctuary director, Andrew Boyle.

“With a top speed of 36mph, this was never going to be an express journey; it was a challenge, especially the last leg of the trip, but we got there,” Andrew told The Avondhu this week, as a select number of invited guests were invited to sample the bus top bistro’s menu.

BAGELS, BANNANA BREAD & BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH

Anxious to push the boat (bus) out, bus top bistro manager Annabel Boyle and her daughter Alice Byron-O’Connor, have come up with ‘an exciting menu’, that caters for those seeking breakfast, brunch or afternoon tea.

Our bottomless brunch is a vibrant and indulgent menu, although Annabel’s can also accommodate the more traditional taste buds. Takeaway options are available and our homemade pizza will be back on our menu again soon!

“We’re hoping that afternoon tea will prove very popular. Initial reaction has been positive and hopefully the word will spread, we’ve an online booking system in place and can cater for small private parties,” she said.

A RURAL SANCTUARY

It’s 20 years since Annabel and Andrew Boyle touched down in Araglin. Over those 2 decades, they’ve accommodated hundreds of animals and given ‘a second chance’ to unwanted and abandoned pets – this includes a pack of wolves!
