Members will get a text in the coming days reminding them about the forthcoming AGM which takes place upstairs in the sports complex on Friday, 6th December at 8pm sharp. Everyone is urged to make a special effort to attend this important meeting.

Lotto up to €13,500

While the bulk of GAA activity has ground to a halt, the lotto rolls on. There was no winner last week which means an additional €100 is added on – this brings the jackpot up to €13,500. The numbers drawn last Thursday night were: 06, 11, 21 and 23 (no winner). The lucky dips were distributed as follows: €50 to Caoimhe Hyland, Araglin; €50 to Christy Ahern, The Swallow Inn; €25 to Brendan Carey, Ballard and the last €25 went to Mary Condon, Gortnaskehy. Araglin GAA thanks the public for their ongoing support.

Keep an eye of GAA Clubs’ Draw

At about the same time that tonight’s (Thursday, 28th November) lotto draw will be taking place, Lismire GAA will be hosting the Cork GAA Clubs’ Draw for November. We drew a blank during the last 12 months so we could do with a win – of any description. Best of luck to all concerned.

Senior citizens’ party a great success

The club takes this opportunity to congratulate everyone associated with last Sunday’s senior citizens’ party in the hall. It was a fantastic day out with loads to eat and drink – there was also plenty singing and great craic. The carnival committee and the ladies club do the lion’s share of the organising and the general consensus was they did a first class job.

Santa coming to the hall

Next up in the hall is the annual children’s party which takes place on Sunday next, 1st December – this has the makings of another fun filled day and is well worth checking out if you have a youngster in the ‘Santa category’.

Bingo on Friday night

The fortnightly bingo is an important source of revenue for the hall and while it’s going pretty well it would be great to have a few more on board. No special skills are needed and you could end up winning a few quid. There’s a cup of tea at the interval and it’s always a very enjoyable social occasion. The next bingo night is this Friday, 29th November at 8.30pm for a jackpot of €820.

Araglin Drama Club

There’s another big night coming up in the hall when members of Araglin Drama Club take to the stage for a one act play followed by some ‘round the fireside’ entertainment – it all happens on Saturday night, 7th December.

Racquetball tournament coming soon

There’s no excuse for lads (lassies) not staying in shape as a racquetball tournament is coming up shortly. To compete, contact either Shay Russell (087-9050395) or Mick Cunningham (086-8270866). All abilities catered for.

Well done to Mary Leddy

Local lady Mary Leddy, has been in the news following her appearances on RTE’s ‘Today Show’. Mary signed up for the ‘Couch To 5km’ challenge and is pounding the roads every evening to be ready for the big day which is Saturday, December 14th in the Phoenix Park. As well as getting fit, Mary is helping to raise the profile of suicide support group, Aware. Mary will feature in an article in next week’s edition of The Avondhu.

Ballysaggart on a roll

The news that filtered through to the hall during last Sunday’s senior citizens’ party was that ‘Ireland lost (the rugby) and Ballysaggart won’. Again, fair play to our Waterford neighbours, they’ve built up a serious head of steam in what has been a fantastic season for them. We played them during the summer and even back then we got a taste of what these fellas are all about. Best of luck in the final lads!
