Blackwater Triathlon Club
On Sunday, 13th March the Earthquake TT cycle event took place starting at 8.30 in Midleton. This team time trial event was made up of teams of 6 riders who cycled a 75km route from Midleton to Youghal and back to Midleton, via Tallow and Dungourney.
Blackwater Triathlon Club had a number of members taking part on the day with Joe Scanlon, Stephen Collins, Mick Mulcahy, Martin Buckley, Adam Blaiklock and Shane Collins making up a BTC team and Nigel Carroll, Brendan Coakley, Pat McHugh and Donal Scannell all taking part in an Over The Hill Cycle Club team.
The event, which was raising funds for the Culann Wants To Walk charity, took place in perfect conditions with a light headwind as the teams travelled from from Midleton to Youghal.
There was great rivalry on the day between the BTC team and our colleagues on the Over The Hill teams, with much banter between the lads at the start line.
The BTC team put in a great effort with everyone working and encouraging all of those around them, keeping the momentum of the pace up and talking a lot to ensure everyone kept to the strategy and knew what was coming up.
The BTC lads finally finished in a time of 2 hours and 6 minutes, narrowly beating the Over The Hill crews. Well done to all the lads who took part on the day.
