Doneraile Park targets ambitious visitor numbers

Not content with receiving an impressive No 3 ranking nationwide for visitor numbers to free attractions nationwide, Doneraile Development Association have targeted ambitious numbers in a bid to gain the No 1 ranking.

Last week The Avondhu reported how Doneraile Wildlife Park had ranked at number 3 in the Fáilte Ireland Top 10 Free Attractions 2014, list thanks to the interest of 460,000 visitors during that period. However Doneraile Development Association has no intention of stopping at that and has a five-year plan aimed at propelling the landmark into the number 1 spot, with projected yearly figures of an ambitious 800,000 visitors.

Doneraile Wildlife Park is currently the biggest free attraction outside of Leinster and spans over 400 acres of parkland and gardens, which were developed over three centuries by the St. Ledger family. Doneraile Development Association now has plans to recreate some of the park’s historic gardens, such as one built in the 17th century and to use the ground floor of the Georgian mansion, Doneraile Court, as a visitor centre.
