Fermoy Camera Club is to exhibit the favourite photographs of its members at a gala night in the Grand Hotel on Friday, November 29. It's their second gala, the overwhelming success of their first in 2011 prompting them to turn it into a bi-annual event.
Photographs taken since their last gala will be displayed and, apart from it showing many different subjects in the town and its environs, the exhibition will demonstrate to visitors the progress made by members in the standard of their photography over the past two years. They're hoping patrons of the gala will be as impressed with this year's gala as they were with the previous event.
All proceeds from the ticket price are going to the Cope Foundation in Fermoy. The Camera Club is also including Cope service users in the event this year by hosting a photographic competition using Autumn as the theme. Cope will also run a raffle on the night and sell their greeting cards.
Details of the gala night were unveiled at a launch in the Grand Hotel on Monday night. The winning entry in the Camera Club's Photograph of the Year competition will be judged on the 29th. It's hoped to have members of other camera clubs in the Cork region in attendance.
Viewing of the exhibition will open on the evening at 6.30pm The acclaimed Castlelyons Gospel Choir will perform at 8.15pm and the always popular Fermoy Concert Band Quartet will also give a recital to add to the enjoyment of the evening.
Speaking at the launch on Monday night on behalf of the Camera Club's organising committee, Kate Murphy said she was delighted to announce the beneficiary of the proceeds of the gala to be Cope, Fermoy.
"This organisation does such a wonderful job of looking after the health and wellbeing of our special friends. We are delighted to be able, in some way, to show our appreciation for the great care taken by Cope to ensure that not only are the physical needs of our special friends taken care of but also that they get to live fulfilling andd enjoyable lives, integrating with the local community and participating in local events," she said.
She was delighted to hear that Cope clients had spent three days recently having great fun taking photos for their competition. She welcomed representatives of Cope Fermoy Fundraising Committee to the launch.
Kate thanked Frank Morgan for his generosity in sponsoring the Cope photography competition, saying "Frank is a stalwart of our club and his generosity towards this event and indeed to all club members is greatly appreciated."
Ian Fleming, Chairman of Cope's Fundraising Committee in Fermoy said: "We are overwhelmed with the generosity of Fermoy Camera Club for once again doing this for us. We hope and expect it will be as big a success and as enjoyable as the last one in 2011. Our clients not only enjoyed the competition but also the social aspect of the night."
Padraig Barry, Chairman of Fermoy Camera Club said the club is delighted to once again be associated with the fundraising event for Cope. "I would like to thank everyone involved but especially Kate Murphy, Geraldine Dorgan and David McCarthy of the organising committee," he added.
Tickets for the gala night cost €10 and are available from Frank Morgan Photography or Kate Murphy 086-3849718, David McCarthy 087-2461093, Ger Dorgan 086-3585434 or any club member.
