Like the good people of Switzerland, staff and pupils at Castlelyons National School have perfected the art of making the most of small spaces. At times this scenario has been less than ideal but everyone simply got on with it.
In a progressive and very welcome move the school has secured 2 fully equipped, customised resource rooms.
Now fully operational the rooms were officially opened at a ceremony held in the school last Monday morning. Special guest was INTO President, Anne Fay, formerly of St Joseph's National School in Fermoy. Anne, who performed tape cutting duties said she was delighted to be part of proceedings.
In her address, Anne said Castlelyons NS had 'a magnificent reputation for educational excellence' - a reputation that was being safeguarded by principal, Nelius de Róiste and his dedicated team of teachers. She also highlighted Mr de Róiste's life-long commitment to promoting the Irish language. Commenting on the new resource rooms, the INTO president said they were a valuable addition to the school and would enhance the educational experience of students. The rooms were blessed by Fr Gerard Coleman.
During his contribution, Mr de Róiste thanked everyone who had helped make the resource rooms a reality - the board of management, the parents' association, engineer John Morrisson and especially, Tom O'Donnell from Ballynoe, whose company T & A oversaw all aspects of construction. Mr O'Donnell who also operates a successful plant hire business, took a personal interest in the project which has been finished to a very high standard. Mr de Róiste also acknowledged the contribution of school caretaker, John McCarthy.
Following fomalities which included the serving of refreshments, Mrs. Fay took time to tour the school and chat with teachers and students.
