First open course meeting a success

On Saturday last, 9 February Kilfinane Open Coursing Club held their first open meeting in very good weather conditions and favoured with a very big turnout that met up in Kilfinane before 10am, before heading off to the meeting.

There were two races, Working Man's Club Stake for the Dara Reale Perpetual Memorial Cup which was won by Mike Reale who beat Paul and Shauna Treacy in the final, while the William Mulcahy Perpetual Inter Club Stake was won by Kilfinane (Patsy and Sean O'Meara) who won on a toss over Kildorrery (Michael Walsh) to take the cup.

After a great day of coursing the refreshments were served at Healy's Bar where the presentations also took place, as did the club raffle on that evening with six prizes on offer. First prize of €150 went to Pat Cunningham, while 2nd prize €100 went to Clement Hayes, 3rd Upholstery value €100 to Mary Boland, 4th and 5th prizes €25 each went Paudie Lawlor Lower Main Street, and Pat Horgan, Mungret; 6th Tickets to Rocky Mayhem 2013 went to Breda Walsh, Mountain View.

Club chairman, John O'Brien thanked all who helped to make a great success of the meeting, especially the clubs who participated, sponsors, and he congratulated the winners and runners-up in the finals. He also thanked a very hard working committee who ensured the meeting would be a success and he looked forward to next year’s meeting.
