There were pyjamas, slippers and dressing gowns galore all over Mitchelstown and Kilbehenny on Friday last, as the children from five different pre-schools all got involved in National Pyjama Day, in order to raise money for Mitchelstown girls Elaine O'Gorman and Laura Manning, who are going to Belarus this summer.

The girls are going to Belarus with the Belarussion Orphanage Project on July 8 for two weeks and while over there, they will be working with the orphans doing things like painting, art, music and games.

Five pre-schools including Bright Sparks, Mulberry Montessori, Pauline Dillane's Montessori, Mitchelstown Community Playgroup and Tree Tops in Kilbehenny, all took part and altogether they raised €927 for the girls.

Bright Sparks are also aiming for their third green flag at the moment, which focuses on water conservation and to tie in with this and boost their fundraising efforts for the girls, they raised €82 by selling water tanks for toilets. These were kindly donated by Martin Lane of Watersave, who donated 20 tanks - each one saves about 2 litres of water with each flush. The staff would like to thank Martin for his generous donation, which raised an additional €82 for the girls and their charitable trip.

UPCOMING FUNDRAISERS

Elaine O'Gorman is a fifth class resource teacher in CBS Primary, Mitchelstown and she also teaches piano in Kilshanna Music School, while Laura Manning is a secondary school teacher in Newcastlewest, Co Limerick.

Elaine said that for both of them as teachers, this will be a great experience and it is something to add to their CV, as well as enhancing their own life experiences. Laura added that she has known Elaine since they first started school together, so it will be great to go through the experience together.

The National Pyjama Day was their first fundraiser, but they will also be holding an Easter raffle in CBS Primary, a collection in Tesco and a bingo night in TO Park. As well as that, before they set off, they will be looking for donations of pre-approved items, which can be brought over.

They would like to thank everyone who supported the National Pyjama Day and hope that people will continue to support their fundraising efforts.
