Yes folks as the headline suggests, what a week! On Tuesday night last local well known villager, Joan McSweeney scooped the €13,950 record lotto jackpot after she managed to match the winning combination of 2, 7, 17 and 24 as they rolled from the drum in Jimmy’s Bar. Well done to Joan who has supported the lotto draw for many years and best of luck with the winnings. Joan will receive her cheque over the weekend.
Race Night March 15th 8pm
The first major fundraiser happens this coming Friday night, March 15th at 8pm in The Village Inn. This is the first running of this event with all monies raised going toward the Sheila Flynn Park development fund, so we would ask everyone to come along on the night and support. With well over 100 underage members between the fun leagues and schoolboys teams, the Sheila Flynn Park development will be a much needed facility for generations to come, so let’s go racing.
Anyone can help in this fundraiser by buying a horse or a share in a horse on the night in the auction race. Anyone wishing to contribute by way of sponsorship can do so by taking out an advertisement in the race card for the night in the auction race, so it’s sure to be a great night of entertainment and suspense, as no doubt all the horse owners, jockeys, trainers etc will be anxious to shout on and indeed place a bet on their own horse on the night.
First race gets underway at around 8pm, so don’t be late folks. Anyone wishing to help out and support the fundraiser can do so by contacting Gus on 086 3685033, Kevin on 086 0836930 or John on 087 9630461.

D-Day for U11s
Yes folks, it’s finally arrived. The much awaited U11 league title play-off game against Valley Rangers is upon us with this Saturday seeing the lads travel to Tallow (Brideview Utd) to take on Valley Rangers in a winner takes all encounter.
After a hard fought winter campaign the lads will try to make it all worthwhile in Tallow on Saturday. Kick off time is 1pm in the final, so the club would ask all parents, grandparents, etc to come along and give the team their support on the day. This is the club’s first season in many years competing in the underage leagues and great credit must go to Kevin and Emmett, who have these lads where they are at present.
Valley will be raging hot favourites on the day with a number of very strong players in their ranks who are capable of winning games on their own. Celtic have a strong team mentality and are sure to be difficult to beat, but it will all come down to the best team on the day. Hopefully the lads will return to Kilworth with some served silverware.
Note: Parents – As this is a final all players are required to wear black shorts and black socks on the day. A limited number of same will be available on the day, but if you have same, please ensure the players brings these on the day. Best of luck to everyone and bring home the title lads. Cars leaving the sq Saturday at 11.50am sharp.
U12s in cup semi
Celtic U12’s play Castlebridge Celtic FC in the cup semi-final. This game is put back until early April, so watch out for some upcoming friendlies against Fermoy. This will be a huge task for the lads as the last encounter with the East Cork side saw them fall to their heaviest defeat of the season, losing 8-2. Anyway, the lads will give it their best shot when the times comes, so watch this space.
Juniors hand points to Brideview
Celtic juniors once again handed the opposition the points when affording the away team a walkover on Sunday last. Once again very disappointing that the juniors continue to struggle for numbers every weekend. This season alone, there has been huge expense with the juniors in insurance, registration fees and not to mention fines etc, but word has it that this could be the last straw with some serious changes ahead for next season. Watch this space.
Sheila Flynn Park Development
Engineers continue to work on preliminary plans for review with local house owners, and with perculation tests scheduled this week, it looks like we could have some progress in the coming months so we still await word on this from the engineer employed.
Once all of this has been completed the club will hold an open meeting to let the public and any interested/concerned parties have their input and review on the plans. Anyone interested in lending their support, time, help or anything no matter how small can do so by contacting Gus on 086 3685033 or Kevin on 086 0836930.
Fundraising Committee
The fundraising committee continue to work in the background and the first major fundraiser will be a fun race night on March 15th hosted by The Village Inn. Huge work already gone into this project behind the scenes and these fundraisers will be key in securing the much needed funds to apply for grants etc, as the club look to develop their grounds and facilities, so all help will be greatly appreciated. This committee is chaired by John Caplice (087 9630461).
