Tigers U14 League

On Tuesday evening last the girls played Watergrasshill at home in St Colman’s and were quick to score with a point from Laura but despite having most of the play they only managed another 1-4 before half time. The second period saw scores taken with more accurate passing with Ellen Murphy at full forward getting a hat trick of goals, ably assisted by the rest of Fermoy forwards, saw the girls run out comfortable winners.

On Thursday evening the girls played Bride Rovers in Rathcormac on a windy night for football. Despite playing against a cross wind in the first half Fermoy were creating chances and were rewarded with goals from Sinead and Anna and two points from Emma gave the girls a healthy half time lead. Further pressure by Fermoy in the second half would see further scores added, despite Rovers battling well and creating chances of their own. However, the girls responded well to any attacks and won well in the end.

U14 EAST CORK FEILE

Qualification for the county section of the Feile was held in Killeagh on Sunday last in windy conditions for football. Our first game was against Rock Ban and playing against the breeze, the girls were slow to get going but managed a one point lead at the break thanks to a goal from Ellen. Further points in the second period, Laura with four, Emma and Caitlin with a point each and another goal from Ellen Murphy sealed victory by 2-6 to 0-2.

In the second game we played hosts to Inch Rovers and got off to the worst possible start conceding two early goals which the girls found hard to come back from, although they did rally in the second half and gradually reduced Inch’s half time lead of seven points to leave only three points in it at the end, final score Inch 3-3 Fermoy 1-6.

In the third game we needed a win to keep our hopes alive of qualifying and against Glanmire this wasn’t going to be easy, however the girls were in no mood for giving up easily and from the word go they gave it their all and with the aid of a cross wind led at the break by two points with Glanmire scoreless, with a few minutes to go Glanmire got a point back despite the girls best efforts who had chances to add to their tally, a penalty save by Caoimhe Moore in the last minute added to the excitement but on the last kick of the game an equaliser was scored from a long range effort. Final score Fermoy 0-2 Glanmire 0-2. Scorer Laura (0-2).

Heartbreak for the girls who had given it their all and were unlucky through injuries to have lost Lisa in the first game and Caoimhe Keneally at the start of the Glanmire game, they now qualified for the plate final against Rockban which Fermoy won by 2-3 to 1-1 with Caitlin Flynn 1-2, Eve 1-0, and Emma 0-1 scorers. Afterwards Elaine O’Donnell the Fermoy captain was presented with the plate trophy by Thomas Goggins the East Cork Ladies Football chairman. Thanks to all who came and supported on the day.

Best of luck to Inch Rovers and Glanmire who now will represent East Cork in the county section of the Feile.
