No joy for Bally’ handballers
Our U14 ladies footballers got their league campaign up and running on Saturday last with an away fixture against Dromtarriffe.
While they suffered a heavy defeat the girls acquitted themselves very well despite having little time to gel as a team yet. They kept going to the end and they notched up a couple of lovely scores. Any team that can call on the resources of a town the size of Millstreet is going to be very strong and aided by a stiff breeze the opposition dominated the first half.
In the second half the full-back line of Ciara Nolan, Aisling O’Keefe and Clodagh Gould were able to clear their lines effectively and Shauna Hurley in goal pulled off a couple great saves to stifle the opposition. Outside them Elena Gould, Aine Keating and Leah O’Flynn dominated their opposite numbers and all seven started to play well as a unit. In midfield Leah Maunsell was outstanding linking defence and attack and together with her midfield partner of Jade Barry they really took the game to the opposition in that second half.
Roisin Guerin, Lauren Shirkie and Chloe Barry battled hard with a very sticky defence and after good work out the field Lauren opened our account with a well taken goal. Inside them Eimear O’Sullivan, Tara O’Gorman and Sally McCarthy were unlucky not to add to Tara’s point during a competitive second half.
Our next match is on Saturday against Knocknagree in Castlemagnier at 5pm.
Training on tonight, Thursday. Kildorrery Ladies are on Twitter and can be followed @KdyLadiesClub.
